RHYTHMS OF FREEDOM - Liminal pERFORMANCE

The AIM Society was invited to present a work-in-progress performance of their ongoing project Liminal at the Rhythms of Freedom event, hosted by The Cape Cultural Collective. Choreographed and directed by Tamsyn Pretorius and Darion Adams, Liminal is a duet that explores the threshold between past and future, self and other, presence and absence. Rooted in the quiet tension of transition, the piece inhabits the “in-between” — a space where identities shift, bodies navigate new terrain, and time feels both stretched and suspended.

STAND TF UP!

"STAND TF UP" is an electrifying improvisational performance crafted by Darion Adams. Premiering at EVERYTHING IS POLITICAL during the Working Title Curation Live Art Weekend at the Baxter Theatre's Masambe Theatre, this performance embodies an energy and attitude that urges individuals to carve out spaces within themselves and assert their presence. In the face of colonial legacies, class disparities, and spatial injustices, it becomes essential for people to prepare themselves to speak out and advocate for their inherent rights.

INFECTING THE CITY 2023

//is ge sada, sada ge //isShe is Us, and We Are Her — is a site-responsive dance performance first performed at the Infecting the City Public Arts Festival in 2023. Rooted in movement and memory, the work explores the erasure and ongoing violence against Indigenous Khoi women and queer bodies in South Africa. Through embodied storytelling, the performance channels both ancestral grief and collective resilience, asking: who speaks for the silenced, and how do we carry them forward in our bodies? Set against Cape Town’s colonial architecture, the piece confronts public space as both witness and accomplice to historical and present-day violence.
